Baking these soft and chewy chocolate dipped peanut butter cookies was such a lovely family moment in our kitchen. Getting kids involved in baking is a brilliant way to spend time together, even if things get a little messy! My son loved helping with this recipe, especially rolling the peanut butter cookie dough into balls and dipping the baked cookies into smooth milk chocolate. These cookies are rich, indulgent, and wonderfully decadent, with soft centres and a chewy bite. They're definitely a treat where one cookie is more than enough, although you might still be tempted to go back for another. I doubled this recipe and saved half of the dough, I will be making peanut butter cookie dough ice cream…can’t wait for this!!

  • Caster Sugar – Caster sugar helps give the cookies a light sweetness and smooth texture. If you don't have caster sugar, you can use granulated sugar, although the texture may be slightly less fine.
  • Light Brown Sugar – Light brown sugar adds moisture, softness, and a lovely caramel flavour. This helps create those delicious soft centres and chewy edges. Dark brown sugar can also be used for a deeper, richer flavour.
  • Butter – Butter gives these peanut butter cookies their rich flavour and tender texture. For best results, use softened butter so it mixes easily with the sugars.
  • Egg – The egg helps bind the cookie dough together and gives the cookies structure. Make sure it is mixed in well before adding the dry ingredients.
  • Peanut Butter – Peanut butter is the star of the recipe, giving these cookies their nutty flavour and soft, chewy texture. Smooth peanut butter works best, but crunchy peanut butter can be used if you like a little extra texture.
  • All Purpose Flour – All purpose flour gives the cookies their shape and structure. In the UK, plain flour is the same and works perfectly in this recipe.
  • Baking Powder – Baking powder helps the cookies rise slightly and keeps them from being too dense.
  • Vanilla Essence – Vanilla essence adds warmth and brings out the sweetness of the peanut butter and chocolate. You can also use vanilla extract if you prefer.
  • Milk Chocolate – Milk chocolate is perfect for dipping these peanut butter cookies, adding a smooth, sweet, decadent finish. You can swap it for dark chocolate if you prefer a richer taste, or white chocolate for a sweeter treat

What equipment will you need to make Chocolate dipped peanut butter cookies?

  • Cooling rack – A cooling rack is basic piece of kitchen equipment but essential for this recipe so ensure the cookies fully cool before dipping.
  • Electric whisk – The electric whisk is a great alternative to an expensive stand mixer and works great for this recipe. The electric whisk is so versatile, I even use mine to mash potatoes! This whisk is a personal favourite, its workhorse in my kitchen and has never broken
  • Mixing bowl – An essential piece of kitchen equipment. I’ve owned this set of mixing bowls for years and they are still like new.

FAQ

What is the secret to good peanut butter cookies?

The secret to good peanut butter cookies is getting the texture just right. For soft and chewy peanut butter cookies, don't overbake them, they should still look slightly soft in the centre when they come out of the oven. Using plenty of peanut butter also gives them that rich flavour and tender bite.

What kind of chocolate is best for dipping cookies?

Milk chocolate works beautifully for dipping cookies because it gives a smooth, sweet finish that pairs perfectly with peanut butter. You can also use dark chocolate if you prefer a richer flavour, or white chocolate for something a little sweeter.

How do you keep peanut butter cookies soft?

To keep peanut butter cookies soft, store them in an airtight container once they have cooled completely. You can also add a slice of bread to the container, which helps the cookies stay soft for longer without drying out.

Can children help make these peanut butter cookies?

Yes, this is a great recipe for getting children involved in baking. Kids can help roll the cookie dough into balls, press them gently before baking, and dip the cooled cookies into chocolate. It's a fun family baking activity and a lovely way to make memories in the kitchen.

Can I make these cookies as an edible gift?

Absolutely. These chocolate dipped peanut butter cookies make lovely edible gift cookies, especially for Father's Day, birthdays, bake sales, or homemade treat boxes. Once the chocolate has set, you can package them in a gift bag or cookie box.

Can I freeze peanut butter cookies?

Yes, peanut butter cookies freeze well. You can freeze the baked cookies before dipping them in chocolate, then defrost and decorate them later. You can also freeze the cookie dough balls and bake them fresh when you need a quick homemade treat.
