Hi, I’m Steve…..

I'm a former chef turned family cook, living in the West Midlands of the UK with my wife and our very enthusiastic 5‑year‑old sous chef. I've swapped the chaos of restaurant kitchens for the chaos of parenthood, and honestly, the second one is louder!
I have always loved cooking, but when my son arrived, everything shifted. I wanted our home to be a place where we cooked, ate, laughed, and connected – even on those nights when homework, after‑school clubs, and general life try to take over.
Dad's Family Kitchen is your trusted corner of the internet for recipes that are easy to follow, delicious, and – let's be honest – turn out perfect most of the time. Because real life happens, and sometimes the pasta sticks and the smoke alarm plays music!

My mission…
I hope you find recipes here that become your family favourites-the ones you reach for when you want something comforting, simple, and joy‑bringing.
More than that, I want to inspire you to use everyday cooking as a way to bond with your kids, your partner, your friends… whoever wanders into your kitchen. Food is connection, and connection is what makes memories.

My Culinary Story…
I've been obsessed with cooking for as long as I can remember. My first job was front of house in a restaurant, then trained professionally over 25 years ago. I worked my way up to head chef in two independent restaurants, cooking fresh, fine food under the pressure of a busy kitchen.
I loved the creativity, the camaraderie, the buzz… but the lifestyle wasn't compatible with the family life I wanted. So about 10 years ago, I changed careers. Now I work in Further Education in safeguarding, and I get to cook at home – with a 5‑year‑old helper who believes every dish needs "just a bit more cheese!"
I still use the skills I learned all those years ago, but these days my food is simple, fresh, homemade, and family‑focused. And yes, sometimes I still get fancy.
Why I started this blog?
Life gets busy. Ridiculously busy. Between work, school runs, and the never‑ending "what's for dinner?" question, I found myself cooking the same quick, boring meals on repeat. Even as someone who loves cooking, I'd lost the spark.
I wanted to slow things down. To make cooking fun again. To involve my child, even if it meant a little extra mess and a lot of extra chatter. I started documenting the recipes my family loves so my kids can use them one day – and so I can share them with families everywhere who want to bring a little more joy into their kitchens.
Easy, Delicious, Real‑Life Recipes…
At Dad's Family Kitchen, we believe great food doesn't have to be complicated. Most of my recipes use everyday ingredients and come with step‑by‑step photos so you can follow along easily – even with kids tugging at your sleeve.
Every recipe is created and tested by me, my wife (chief taste‑tester), and my 5‑year‑old (chief mess‑maker). No AI, no outsourcing – just real food cooked in a real family kitchen.
The photos? They're mine too. Not perfect, not AI‑generated – just honest snapshots of the food we actually eat.
